Among various classification criteria, the lubrication method is one of the key indicators for differentiating air compressor types. Two common types available on the market—oil-lubricated air compressors and oil-free air compressors—exhibit distinct price gaps, which are further widened by factors such as pressure rating and application scenarios.

  Oil-lubricated air compressors for general applications feature relatively simple structures and mature technologies, making them more affordable overall. Taking the commonly used 7.5kW screw-type model as an example, its market price usually ranges from 10,000 yuan to 20,000 yuan; the 15kW model mostly falls between 25,000 yuan and 40,000 yuan. Such equipment is suitable for occasions with low requirements for air quality, such as general machining and construction projects. However, regular lubricant replacement and maintenance are necessary for these machines.

  In contrast, oil-free air compressors adopt special materials or designs (e.g., water lubrication, dry screw, scroll structure) to prevent lubricating oil from entering the compressed air system, thus ensuring air cleanliness. These devices are widely used in industries sensitive to air quality, including food and beverage production, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and electronic assembly. For this reason, they have higher manufacturing costs and technical thresholds. A 7.5kW oil-free screw air compressor is typically priced between 40,000 yuan and 70,000 yuan; the 15kW model generally ranges from 80,000 yuan to 130,000 yuan, which is approximately 2 to 3 times the price of oil-lubricated models of the same power.

  When application scenarios demand higher pressure, the price of air compressors will rise accordingly. For instance, the discharge pressure of conventional industrial air compressors is mostly between 0.7MPa and 0.8MPa, while certain special processes (such as high-pressure cleaning, pneumatic tool driving, and air supply for laboratory equipment) may require a pressure rating of 1.0MPa or even higher. High-pressure oil-lubricated air compressors need to be enhanced in terms of structural strength and sealing performance, so their prices are about 20% to 40% higher than those of standard-pressure models. Taking a 22kW, 1.3MPa oil-lubricated screw air compressor as an example, its market quotation is roughly between 50,000 yuan and 70,000 yuan.

  If both high pressure and oil-free lubrication are required, the technical complexity of the equipment increases significantly. At present, most air compressors on the market that can achieve a discharge pressure of over 1.0MPa and realize true oil-free operation adopt solutions such as multi-stage compression, water lubrication, or specially coated rotors. These products not only require sophisticated manufacturing processes, but also need to pass relevant industry certifications (e.g., ISO 8573-1 Class 0 oil-free certification). Therefore, their prices are often in the high-end range. For example, a 22kW, 1.2MPa oil-free screw air compressor is usually priced between 150,000 yuan and 250,000 yuan, and some imported brands cost even more. For models with larger power or customized requirements, the price may increase further.

Domestic equipment has certain advantages in cost-effectiveness, while imported brands excel in stability, energy efficiency, and service life, but require a higher initial investment. When selecting equipment, users should not only focus on the device price, but also comprehensively consider factors such as operational energy consumption, maintenance frequency, spare parts supply, and long-term usage costs.

  With the tightening of environmental regulations and the rising demand for air quality in various industries, the application scope of oil-free air compressors is gradually expanding. Although their initial procurement cost is higher than that of traditional oil-lubricated models, the safety and compliance value they bring in specific fields have made them a priority choice for a growing number of users.
